What each one does best
Canaves Oia Suites: privacy in a suite of your own
Canaves Oia Suites is a Small Luxury Hotels of the World member on the caldera edge in central Oia, inside the pedestrian zone. It has about 30 suites and a villa, and many come with their own heated plunge pool, so you can spend whole days without leaving your terrace.
The shared spaces include a main pool with a jacuzzi and a newer shallow infinity pool with loungers set in the water. Petra restaurant serves from breakfast to dinner, and one candlelit table a night is set on the Panorama Terrace. The spa sits in a converted 17th-century wine cave. Expect plenty of stairs.

Katikies Santorini: the pools everyone photographs
Katikies is a Leading Hotels of the World member, also on the caldera edge in central Oia. Its 34 rooms and suites all face the caldera, and its three infinity pools on different levels are among the most photographed in Santorini. The pool by the Champagne Bar is the liveliest, with a DJ; the smallest is the quietest.
Dining is a strength: Botrini’s offers intimate fine dining with Cycladic flavours, and the Champagne Bar serves sushi and caviar. The spa is small, with two treatment rooms, but guests can use the bigger spa and gym at sister hotel Katikies Gea House, a seven-minute walk away. It opens from 1 April to 15 November.

Where they are
Who should skip both
If you have limited mobility or travel with young children, both are cliffside, stair-heavy hotels for guests aged 13 and over. Look at beach hotels on flat ground in Kamari or Perissa instead.
