The story

At the southern entrance to the Bay of Palma, a 19th-century fortress called Cap Enderrocat once guarded the approach to the city. It was built as a military defence, with bunkers, gun positions and walls cut into the cliffs, and was later decommissioned.

The Mallorcan architect Antonio Obrador took on the site and turned it into a hotel without erasing its past. Former soldiers’ quarters, watchtowers and the places where cannons once hid became rooms and suites, and even glass-topped loading carts now serve as cocktail tables.

Today Cap Rocat has about 30 rooms and suites on around 88 acres of protected coastline, stretching for some two kilometres along the sea. It is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and holds two MICHELIN Keys.
