The story
Above the old fishing hamlet of Conca dei Marini, between Amalfi and Positano, an existing cliffside property was rebuilt over about three years. In summer 2021 it opened as Borgo Santandrea, hailed as the first new luxury hotel on the Amalfi Coast in 15 years.
Architect Bonaventura Gambardella and interior designer Nikita Bettoni shaped it in blue and white, with mid-century touches that recall the great Italian designer Gio Ponti. The hotel spreads over eight floors, built into the rock face about 90 metres above the sea.
Its 29 rooms and 16 suites all look over the water, and eight suites have private plunge pools. The hotel has since joined Relais & Châteaux, its restaurant Alici holds a MICHELIN star, and it has been awarded two MICHELIN Keys.
