- Rooftop terrace
- 87 rooms
The story
Bairro Alto Hotel opened in 2005 on Praça Luís de Camões, the square where elegant Chiado meets the bohemian lanes of Bairro Alto. It was one of the pioneers of the five-star boutique hotel in Portugal.
Eduardo Souto de Moura, the Porto architect who won the Pritzker Prize in 2011, had often stayed here himself. He led a large expansion that joined the hotel to three neighbouring 18th-century buildings, keeping the original façades and their soft ochre, blue and green colours.
The hotel reopened on 8 August 2019, about twice its former size, with 87 rooms. Chef Nuno Mendes, back in his home city after years in London, shaped BAHR, the restaurant and terrace on the fifth floor.
